The North-East Regional Health Authority, a statutory body under the Ministry of Health &  Wellness, with responsibility for the management  and delivery of Public Health Services within the  parishes of St. Ann, St. Mary, and Portland invites  applications from suitably qualified individuals to fill the position of Registered Nurse for the Port Antonio Hospital.

Reporting to the Director of Nursing Services, the incumbent is responsible for direct and indirect nursing care and treatment of patients/clients at the hospital with exception of the delivery of babies.

Requirements

• BSc. In General Nursing from an accredited Institution;
• Registration with the Nursing Council of Jamaica.

Responsibilities

• Assess, diagnose, classify, plans,  implements, evaluates a nursing care plan  for the individual patient/client using all  relevant data;
• Interprets and administers prescriptions,  treatments, and monitors the patient’s  action to determine the best possible  outcomes;
• Acts promptly and effectively in emergency  situations;
• Performs nursing procedures that are  appropriate to the needs, age and acuity  level of the patient;
• Documents information promptly, clearly  and completely and relates as necessary to the relevant persons;
• Ensures proper collection, identification,  storage and safe transportation of  specimens to the laboratory with  appropriate requisition forms;
• Participate in quality assurance  programmes of unit - Ensure environmental safety of patient care unit and sees that  appropriate health and safety measures  are in place;
• Implements discharge/care plan including  referral to appropriate agencies;
• Supervises auxiliary and support staff,  assists in the cost-effective usage of  supplies and equipment;
• Assumes in charge/administrative responsibility when delegated, especially  afternoon and night duty;
• Acts as liaison between patient/client  relative and the physician in interpreting  and conveying information;
• Teaches patient/client and family health  promotion, disease prevention, health maintenance;
• Participates in the clinical teaching and  evaluation of nursing students, auxiliaries and other personnel;
• Participates in ward rounds, patient/client reports and staff conferences.

Note

Salary Scale: $2,998,418 – $3,564,176 per annum along with any other allowance(s) attached to the post.
